Porter Facts
Anyone who has climbed Kili will know what an integral part of their trip the porters are. This project came about due to the porters obvious intrigue and enjoyment of photography when we climbed in 2008.
However did you know:
- porters can be extremely underpaid for the difficult work they do;
- many do not have adequate clothing for existing in such an extreme environment;
- tips paid by climbers are not always distributed to the porters;
- porters on the mountain often sleep in overcrowded tents and eat poor quality food.
Money raised through this project will be used to improve these working conditions and to do this we need to collect as many photographs as possible.
Even if you cannot help with our project please be aware of these issues on Kilimanjaro. For more information see the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project website: www.kiliporters.org
